Japanese Arabic Video Mashup

Hanan has frequently mentioned the cartoons that she watched as a kid growing up in Syria, in particular one that involved a guy named ‘Duc Feed’ and his robot ‘Klandaser’ who battle against other evil robots trying to take over the universe.

I’ve never been sat at my machine before when they’ve been mentioned, but this time I was and what better way to test out the power of t’internet than finding details of obscure Japanese Anime dubbed into Arabic :)

Searching on google didn’t result in any hits for ‘Klandaser’ or ‘Duc Feed’, but then i wasn’t sure that these would be accurate translations of the actual names. A quick search later for ‘arabic cartoons’ resulted in this page which listed a whole bunch of old cartoons dubbed into Arabic. A lot of these are Japanese anime and include Hanans old favourite which turns out to be called ‘Grendizer‘ (and the main character is Duke Fleet). A bit more searching and look what we found… yes that’s right Grendizer on Youtube, dubbed into Arabic.

I’m impressed by the power of the Longtail.

Excuse me now while I go and try and calm Hanan down, she’s running round the flat pretending to be a giant robot.

Hmmm, Hanan grew up on this stuff? Well that explains a few things. Still nice to see her choose something that isn’t all sex and violence like her normal film selections! :-)

haha that makes me sound dodgy … I don’t choose films that are all sex and violence … well… not always anyway :P

Grendizer is sooo good though… hearing the opening music to it, and watching the clips last night was brilliant, such a cool childhood memory. I never thought I would watch it again. The best Valentines present I could ask for :)

It’s Battle of the Planets for me all the way. Another anime converted for a foreign market.
For the English version they removed all the violence and replaced it with a rather silly little robot (and his robot dog).
Great stuff though, I remember running around a playground aged 5 pretending to be characters from BotP. What a sad admission.

WE talked about this today not anime but what I was brought up on
Monkey and captain scarlet.

Battle of the planets was a definately a good one, that’s the only Japanese one I can remember being aired in Britain. Transformers, Go-bots, Thundercats and He-man were all staple cartoon diet for my school days :)

Being somewhere between you and epred, I have to say that I remember the programmes that both of you mention. And Stingray too :-)

The really worrying part is that I can still remember every word of the Transformers theme tune. That’s hard storage I could be using for something else, like more of the XPath syntax. Clearly I was brainwashed by TV as a child.

Ah, nostalgia.

I can still pretty much remember all the words for Danger Mouse as well, now that was a catchy theme.

Si baroni :-) Dangermouse very good
